B12 FAQs

The positive effects of B12 shots are compelling. Most people who receive these shots experience improved emotional well-being, increased energy, better memory retrieval, accelerated mental alertness and recovered nerve function. For people with memory problems, Celiac's disease, Crohn's disease, anemia or age-imposed gastric complications, B12 shots can be essential to optimal health. Because many people with these issues cannot absorb dietary sources of B12 or oral supplements, the shot is a way to bypass stomach problems and get the much-needed B12 into the blood system and the muscle tissues.

If you're concerned about B12 shot side effects, you can relax. Unless you have an allergic reaction to the shots, you should not experience side effects of any kind. People who experience an allergic reaction to vitamin B12 shots will exhibit a rash, tightness of chest or difficulty breathing, but these reactions are quite rare. If you do experience these symptoms, you should tell your doctor right away. However, most people tolerate B12 shots quite well.

The only other side effects you might notice are darkened urine and tenderness or sensitivity at the site of the shot. The darkened urine just means your body is excreting the excess B12; the sensitivity just means your skin doesn't like getting poked with a needle, nothing more.

B12 is one of very few substances which is completely safe at all levels (European Union report on Drugs and Nutritional Supplements, August 2004). If you receive a very big dose by injection and the body does not need it, then it will pass the excess out quite easily.

Methylcobalamin is the form of cobalamin that your body readily absorbs. All other cobalamins are broken down in the liver into methylcobalamin. Methylcobalamin is another natural form of B12 and is one of the active forms of the vitamin that occurs within the human body. The cyanide portion of the B12 molecule has been replaced with a methyl group and is more bioavailable to smokers who cannot transform cyanocobalamin (what most offices offer) into methylcobalamin in the liver. Hydroxocobalamin is the longest acting form of B12 available.

Many of our patients opt to get the injection once per week, which is what's recommend for best results.

Our consultation with the Registered Nurse is always complimentary and is required prior to your first injection.

The prices are as follows:

  • Methyl B12 only: $15.00
  • Hydroxo B12 with MIC: $20.00

A package of 4 injections:

  • 4-Methyl B12: $52 (regularly $60)
  • 4-Hydroxo B12 with MIC: $72 (regularly $80)

We offer B12 by itself because some people just want the energy, not the weight loss, and others who want to lose weight but have a sulfa allergy can take this and at least boost their energy so they burn more calories. The results are slower with the B12 by itself, but it does help. Vitamin B12 is a vitamin typically found in meat and dairy products. It helps in the formation of red blood cells and is essential for nervous system functioning. B12 can create a significant energy boost for the body. Patients who take it feel like moving around more and tend to burn more calories through increased movement.

The Vitamin B12 Lipotropic injections are a tool to aid your dieting efforts. The injections will not cause weight loss alone. It is with a healthy diet and exercise program that you will see and feel the benefits of the injection.
